About WTF is Therapy

WTF is Therapy was created by Danielle Pientka, former therapist and social worker turned stay-at-home mom. Danielle has her B.A. in psychology and her Masters in Social Work.

The goal of this site is to demystify therapy and social work practice so that normal every day people understand what therapy is, how to find the right therapist, and what to expect from therapy.

We’ll talk about how to start therapy, how to quit therapy, different psychiatric symptoms, and what it means to be neurotypical (or not).

We’re also going to discuss WHO needs the therapy- spoilers: the answer is everyone, at some point in their life- and when you should consider seeking out the service.

We may even talk about harnessing our superpowers because not all psychiatric symptoms are negative all of the time. Some of the greatest minds have struggled with mental health symptoms and it makes sense that these great people in history weren’t “neurotypical.”

In the wise words of Albus Dumbledore, “It is our choices … that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” I feel like this is true of mental health symptoms. We can have symptoms and a diagnosis, we can learn how to successfully live with, use, and/or overcome the symptoms, and we can learn how to make healthy choices that let us be successful.

I hope that this site will empower everyone to seek therapy when needed and to feel like they have some control of their mental well being. I hope that we can all look at therapy as an opportunity to grow and improve our lives, not as a sign of failure.

After working as a therapist for years, I can truly say that all of the best people seek therapy at some point. Don’t be scared- we don’t bite.
